Chambers with baffles.-In the sterilization of water by ultra-violet rays as it flows beneath a mercury-vapour lamp or the like the water is circulated and agitated as it flows through a trough by baffles with bent-out lips or with tubes arranged as shown in Fig. 7<a>. Ripples upon the surface of the water may be prevented by arranging the agitating-devices in apertures 65 at the bottom of a tank as shown in Fig. 15.
