Abstract
1403. Br÷king, E. Jan. 19. Hardening.-Apparatus for hardening knifeblades comprises pairs of oscillating perforated dies adapted to receive a blade between them and through which water is supplied to cool the blade. The end standards 1 of the machine are provided with chambers 2, 3 closed by perforated dies 4, and similar chambers and dies 6, 5, 5<a> are mounted opposite the dies 4 on arms 7 pivoted at 8 and oscillated by cams 10 on the driving-shaft 11. While between the dies the blades rest on rows of pins 25, which are oscillated about the axes 8 by cams 24 on the shaft 11, and the blades when released may fall on conveyer bands. Water is supplied to the chambers 2, 3, 6 through spring - controlled valves 15 operated by cams 20 on the shaft 11.
