Abstract

1244. Monsma, F. J. Jan. 17. Lift v a l v e s ; freezing, preventing; casings.-Relates to draw - off water cocks, for use on service pipes in buildings for emptying the pipes automatically to prevent injury by freezing when a discharge tap in the basement &c. is opened, and particularly to cocks in which a ball valve is closed by fluid pressure thereon and opened by a screw, the invention consisting in constructing the valve casing without recesses in which water could be retained and frozen, and in providing means, such as a bar 7, for preventing the ball from entering the bore of the pipe. The casing is formed with an upright valve chamber 2, the bottom of which is level with the supply pipe and is formed of a screw plug 6. The seating washer 3 lies in a recess in the casing and abuts against an integral shoulder 4. The valve is operated preferably by a left-handed screw 8.
