Incandescent gas burners; mantles; mantle supports. - A n inverted, inclined, upright, or horizontal burner is provided with incandescent rods e or threads arranged opposite longitudinal slits c or rows of holes in a conical or cylindrical burner head b made of a refractory material, such as soapstone, and closed at its upper end These rods e are preferably of star - shaped cross - section, and are made of magnesia, thoria, cotton wool, porcelain, &c. to which a cerium salt is added. The mantle-carrier comprises two rings o, f secured together by small rods g, the incandescent rods e being secured to the upper ring o and passing loosely through holes in the lower one f. In inverted burners, the hit-and-miss air-regulator is formed with a hollow chamber i, to which air is supplied through a pipe k.
