Hubs.-Detachable wheels have a single continuous screw-thread cut in the hub engaging a similar thread on the permanent hub, or on a part rotatable, but incapable of lateral movement, thereon. A rotatable screw-threaded member f, Fig. 7, is secured against lateral movement by a projecting flange g held between the end of the permanent hub b and the flange i on a cylinder h screwed thereto or by a spring ring engaging registering grooves in the member f and permanent hub. The member f engages with a screw - thread d on the detachable hub, and, by its rotation, attaches or detaches the hub. The parts may be locked in position by the spring-pressed plate k, guided on pins, screws, &c. carried by the member f and provided with serrations n at its periphery which engage similar serrations on the detachable hub. The two hub parts may be directly screwed together as in Fig. 7, accidental disengagement being prevented by spring-pressed pawls 1 in one part engaging ratchet teeth on the other, or by bolts; or the detachable hub may have conical ends 4, 5, Fig. 8, seating on a fixed conical part on one end of the permanent hub and a conical nut 6 locked by a pawl 8 on the other end.
