Embroidery machines. - In an automatic embroidery machine, the jacquard needle, that puts a cord-laying device into operation, simultaneously releases the needle-thread tension devices. The tension-wheels 7 are released in the ordinary working of the machine, after the stitches are set, by the cam-gear 11, 12. A jacquard operated lever 35, when it is moved to the right, lowers two sets of thread-carrying hooks 18, which hold the ends of straight cords, into the needle planes. The two pairs of hooks 18 are linked together by a rod 19. By means of lugs 42, 43, when the rod 19 is raised, it raises the bar 12, and so releases the tensionwheels. The lever 35 is moved from one or other of the holding-stops 37, 38 into engagement with a cam-actuated lever 33, for the purpose of positioning the cord-laying gear, by a rod 40 under the control of a jacquard needle.
