Abstract

Equalizing load.-In load-equalizing systems employing an alternating - current induction motor and fly-wheel, the motor is excited, and the slip and power factor controlled by a commutator machine, having a star-wound armature and a number of brushes and poles equal to, or a multiple of, the number of phases, which is connected to the secondary of the machine to be controlled. Fig. 2 shows, diagrammatically, a two-phase induction motor the windings 23, 24 of which are earthed at 25, and connected to slip-rings 26, 27. Mounted on the same shaft 22 is the rotor of a star-connected four-pole commutator machine of the type described in Specification 693/09, [Class 35, Dynamo-electric generators, &c.], of which the brushes 30, 31 are connected to the slip-rings as shown.
