Abstract

28,482. Hall, T. P., and British United Shoe Machinery Co. Dec. 6. Skiving.-In machines in which the work is fed to the knife by a feed-roll which yieldingly presses it against an adjustable or other fixed work guide or presser, an auxiliary yielding pressing-member is provided to press the work against the feed-roll, and thereby assist in feeding and smoothing the work. The invention is shown embodied in a machine of the type described in Specification 24,178/07, which comprises a resiliently mounted feed-wheel F, pivoted at a, and a work-guide G, angularly adjustable about the spindle G<4>. The auxiliary pressing-member consists of a roller 1 carried by a bracket 2, which is pivoted to an extension of the spindle G<4>, and is provided with a rearwardly-extending portion continually pressed upwards by a spring 3, engaging an adjustable screw 5. An adjustable screw 6 passes loosely through this extension and serves as a stop for limiting the operative position of the roller 1.
