Abstract
25,573. Gantke, H. Nov. 19, 1908, [Convention date]. Severing wood by carbonization caused by moving wires; tree-felling.-Wood is cut by a reciprocating or constantly travelling wire, which by its frictional action on the wood, becomes heated and carbonizes the wood in advance of it. To facilitate the removal of the carbonized wood from the cut and avoid jamming, the wire is preferably made with toothlike constrictions and enlargements; or a spirally twisted wire or wire rope of polygonal section may be used. The process is adapted for felling trees, cutting float timber, piles, and timber stacked in inaccessible places. The wire b passing round the tree &c. a has its ends connected by ropes d to the opposite ends of a lever e oscillated by a crank i.
