Abstract

25,059. Cridland, E. A., and British United Shoe Machinery Co. Nov. 1. Turn-shoes, machines for.-In a machine for reforming turn-shoes, an expansible jack is mounted in a position in which the sole of the shoe on the jack is inclined from the horizontal, and is so supported that the jack may be rotated round its support without affecting the expanding - mechanism. The jack, which is carried on a last base B resting on a flange A<2> at the end of an inclined arm A', has two parts C, C<1> sliding in guides in the base B and provided with racks engaging pinions mounted in the jack. The pinions are rotated by the movement of a rack-bar E connected to a second rack-bar F by a joint permitting independent rotative movement, but not independent longitudinal movement. The rack on the bar F is engaged by teeth on a segmental lever G, which is provided with a block G<2> pressed against an abutment on a rod H by a spring J. The rod H is connected to a crank on a shaft L driven by a pulley L<1> operating upon the shaft through a clutch M thrown in by a lever M<1>. As the crank rises, the jack is positively contracted by the engagement of the shoulder on the bar H with the lever G, and, when the crank falls, the jack is yieldingly expanded by pressure of the spring F on the block. Specification 11,880/08 is referred to.
