Abstract
23,954. Lawry, J. L. Oct. 19. Mattresses.-A surgical bedstead, couch, sofa, &c. is constructed with the bed surface capable of being traversed longitudinally so that the occupant may readily be brought into the lithotomy position for gynaecological and other operations. An overlay or mattress 10 is secured to a webbing of elastic woven wire or canvas which passes round rollers 3, 4 at the foot and head of the mattress. Brackets 6 fixed to the mattress have projecting pins 7, which engage endless chains 8 passing over sprocketwheels on the rollers 3, 4. One or both of the roller pivots may have squared ends which are engaged by turning-handles. The foot-rail is adapted to be removed or turned to one side; and stirrups, slings, &c. may be provided at the foot of the bedstead.
