Abstract

22,518. Taylor, A. M. Oct. 4. Boosting.-In a system of charging and discharging secondary batteries, a booster with three armature windings arranged to be connected in series or parallel is placed in series with the battery. The field windings of the booster may also be arranged in series or parallel, as described in Specification 24,643/08, while a " bucking " booster or regulating-cells are employed to keep the battery floating on the system. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the booster windings F, G, FF are placed in series or parallel between one pole of the battery A and the neutral wire D of a three - wire system, by means of a four-pole double-throw switch T, T. The bucking booster e is placed in series or parallel with the booster windings F, G, FF by means of a fuse t and automatic switch U, as described in Specification 18,636/09, while the booster windings F, G, FF are protected by means of a fuse v and the switch U, the coil p of the switch U being placed either across the fuse t or fuse v by means of a switch u. The booster e may be replaced by regulating- cells and a switch w. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the booster windings F, FF, G are tapped and connected to choking-coils m<1>, m<2>, m<3> through switches z<1>, z<2>, z<3>.
