Abstract

22,021. Lund, J. P. H. Sept. 27. Rudders ; steering-gear stopping way.-Relates to duplex or quadruplex balanced rudders of the type which can be turned parallel with one another so as to steer the vessel, or can be set to different angles in relation to one another in the stream of fluid from the propeller, so as to retard the speed of, or to reverse the vessel. The heads or shanks C, Figs. 1 and 2, of the rudders A are connected by pinions K and two separate toothed sectors H to the tiller G, which is pivoted at J and is operated from the steering- wheel by the usual means. In order to set the rudders A at an angle to each other, a screw L, Fig. 1, carried by the forward end of the tiller G, actuates a traversing nut or cross-head M, Figs. 1 and 2, which is connected on either side by links N to the toothed sectors H. The screw L is operated by means of a chain P from a wheel mounted on the same spindle as the steering-wheel. When the rudders are in the reversing position, a stern-post F prevents the passage of water between their adjacent edges. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the rudders A are each provided with a tiller G, which is connected by a link G<2> with an intermediate tiller G'. The links N are connected to cranks T on the heads or shanks C. Specification 1254/09, is referred to,
