Abstract

18,839. Glover, T. Aug 16. Gear-cutting.-In apparatus for cutting toothed wheels, a hob 3 acts on blanks 5, which are mounted on spiodles 2 carried by a disk 1. The disk is driven from a shaft 15 through worm gearing 14, 13, 10, 9. The blanks are removed by jaws 4, which are successively lowered, closed on the blanks, raised, moved horizontally, and opened to discharge them down a sboot 39<a> &c. The jaws are closed by a spring and are carried by a sleeve 22, which is slotted at 25 for a pin 31 which connects a plunger 26 to a rocking lever 30. The lever 30 is pivoted in a lug 29, which can rotate against the action of a spring 20. A knuckle or other joint 32 connects the lever 30 to a vertical rod, which receives vertical motion from a cam 36 and horizontal motion from a cam 37. The slot 25 allows the pin 31 to be moved downwards for the plunger 26 to open the jaws ; the plunger and the sleeve 22 are then carried downwards together with the pin 31. On rising, the plunger is first withdrawn for the jaws to grip the blank, and then the plunger and the sleeve are raised with the blank, the arm 30 is moved horizontally about the pivot 29, and the jaws are again opened by the action of the cam 36.
