Abstract

Force-transmitting mechanism.-The brake beams of railway and tramway vehicles are suspended from the truck frame so as to be capable of a limited universal movement by two parallel bars formed at each end with projections mounted in sockets, preferably of spherical formation, provided in brackets specially constructed for attachment to the truck frame and brake beam respectively. Projections c, d formed on bars 7, 8 are secured in sockets in brackets 2, 4 by bolts 9, which pass loosely through the parts and are fitted with springs 12 and lock-nuts 13. The bracket 2 is provided at one side with a recess and overhanging lip 2<d> to engage the transom 3, and at the other side with flanges 2<b>, providing between them a recess to receive the nut of the securing-bolt 2<e>. The bracket 4 is similarly constructed, except that the overhanging lip is omitted and lateral ears 4<b> are provided to give a broader bearing on the brake beam 5.
