Abstract

Sound, controlling and actuating apparatus by; subaqueous sound signals.-In a method of operating switches, signals, and other apparatus at a distance by means of sound-waves or other vibrations, the sound-waves &c. are received by a microphone in circuit with a relay, and increase the resistance of the microphone to such an extent that the relay releases its armature so as to close a local circuit containing switches, lamps, or other apparatus. The armature of the relay c, Fig. 2, may be returned to its attracted position by a finger-push or by a magnet g in a local circuit II containing a stepby-step electro-magnetic switch h, j, k<1>, controlling a further circuit III. The local circuit II may be divided as shown in Fig. 3, so that each branch contains a magnet q, q<1>, between which is mounted a common armature p carrying contacts which alternately complete the circuit II through the magnets q, q<1> and also complete the circuit III alternately through the devices l, l<1>. A spring t retains the armature in either extreme position The microphone may be mounted on a tuned diaphragm.
