17,614. Cox, F. J. July 29. Gripping-dev i c e s. - Dumbbells are provided with a spring grip in which a tension spring is acted upon by links. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the ends of the spring fare adjustably connected to screws d pivoted to bell-crank levers c<1>, c<2> hinged at b and acted on by the parts a<3> as shown. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the spring f is connected by toggle-links c<3> to the two sides of the dumb-bell. The sides have heads a<5>, to which additional weights k may be connected as shown. In another form, the ends a<5> are absent, and the spring is enclosed in sliding tubes.
