16,529. Lamplough, F., and Browne Engineering Co. July 15. Eccentric - actuated pumps; stroke, varying. -Comprises mechanism for varying the stroke of pumps, ratchet motions, &c. The driving - shaft d, Fig. 2, carries a block or disk e, Fig. 3, having diametrically opposite convex and concave surfaces e<2>, e', which engage with corresponding concave and convex surfaces f<2>, f<1>, Figs. 5 and 6, formed on an oscillating piece f,which communicates motion to the pump piston b by means of a connecting- rod c. On the side of the piece f opposite to the projections f<1>, f<2> are formed similar projections f<3>, f<4>, arranged at right - angles to the others and engaging with a disk j, Fig. 7, similar to the disk e. The disk j has a circular portion which rotates within a bearing in a lever g, the position of which is automatically adjusted according to the pressure in the pump delivery by means of the device shown. When the bearing in the lever g is axially in line with the driving-shaft d, the parts e, f, j rotate on the same axis and no motion is communicated to the pump piston; but as soon as the parts are moved out of alinement, the part f oscillates, causing the pump piston to make four strokes for every revolution of the shaft d. The pump is suitable for maintaining a predetermined pressure in flash steam - generators, hydraulic accumulators, water mains, &c. The position of the lever g may be regulated by hand, in which case the mechanism is suitable for imparting variable movement to ratchet motions &c.
