Abstract

Tobacco pipes.-A tortuous smoke-passage 18 is formed by cutting grooves in the face of each part of a longitudinally-split plug 16, which is inserted in a cavity in the stem and mouthpiece, and provides a friction or screw joint for the mouthpiece and bowl-extension. The plug abuts against a stop shoulder 20 on the bowl, and has the smoke entrance in a face 19 on its upper part, which terminates flush with the inner surface of the bowl or may protrude therethrough. The middle part of the plug may be cut away, as shown in Fig. 5, to lessen friction. To obviate clogging of the smoke-passage, a pit 27, Fig. 7, may be formed in the bottom of the bowl below the entrance to the stem. The Provisional Specification also states that part of the invention is applicable to pipes having plugs formed in one piece.
