15,203. Daalen, H. B. van. June 29. Controllers, actuating-mechanism for.-The controlling-arms of two or more rheostats or the like are operated independently and successively by a single lever. A spindle B carrying an operating- lever G is connected to a handle A through toothed gearing a, b. The lever G carries at its outer end two spring-pressed pawls c', c' and a depending lug k, Fig. 5. The contact arm D of the first rheostat is provided with an upwardly-projecting bevelled lug d, while the arm E of the second rheostat is provided with a similar lug e. Starting from the position of rest, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the arm G is above the rheostat arm D, and the pawl c' behind the projection d. When the arm G is moved in the direction indicated by the arrow, the pawl c' engages the projection d until it meets a bevelled surface m on a curved guide F, the pawl and projection then becoming disengaged. Upon a further rotation of the arm, the projection k engages the lug e on the arm E of a second rheostat, while the pawl c<2> rides over the inclined surface of this lug and falls behind it after the inclined surface n is passed. A further movement of the arm operates the rheostat arm E. When the arm G is moved in the reverse direction, the pawl c<2> engaging with the lug e operates the arm E until the inclined surface n is reached, when it becomes disengaged, the pawl c<1> simultaneously riding over the bevelled lug d. A further rotation of the arm G causes the projection k to engage with the lug d, thereby operating the rheostat arm D, the pawl c' falling behind the lug d. When more than two arms are operated, the projection k is arranged to be withdrawn from the path of the lugs and returned to its normal position after it has passed the next lug. The controller may be used for varying the speed of a shunt or compound wound motor, one arm varying the resistance in the armature circuit, and the other arm varying the resistance in the shunt field.
