Abstract
14,414. Sch³tte, J. June 19. Aerostats; propelling; steering.-An air-ship is fitted with steering-devices at each side of the aerostat, comprising horizontal surfaces fixed in an adjustable frame which also carries adjustable vertical surfaces for lateral steering. Auxiliary lifting - propellers are adapted to be clutched to the motor shaft to aid in raising the machine. The horizontal planes f<1> ... f<4>, Fig. 4, are fixed in a frame k which is rotatable about an horizontal axis z-z by means of shafts r' gearing with toothed sectors i secured to the frame. The shafts r' are rotated oppositely by a bevel-wheel z<3>, turned by flexible or jointed rods from a hand-wheel h in the car. The hand-wheel operates the frames k at both sides of the machine simultaneously in the same direction. The tillers of the vertical planes l<1>, l<2>, l<3> are connected by rods and are operated by cords from the car. Separate operating-cords are provided for the vertical planes at each side of the aerostat. The auxiliary side propellers P, Fig. 1, are mounted on vertical shafts d on a fixed bracket e, and are driven by jointed rods g and bevel-wheels from the motor shaft.
