Shaft couplings.-In a flexible shaft coupling, two disks a, a' are secured to the shaft ends, and are each provided with a similarly-placed and equally-distanced series of studs d. Shoes g fitted to each stud act as bearing-plates for springs f. All the studs on one disk are fixed in position, and the intermediate studs are drawn between the pairs of springs f, as shown in Fig. 4, thus giving an initial compression to the springs. Each stud may have a taper-ended sleeve. A metallic pencil k may be secured to one disk and bear on the periphery of the other, thus showing the extension or compression ofthe springs f.
