Abstract
13,142. Curtis, A. H., Mould, J. T., and Adams Manufacturing Co. June 4. Mechanically - interconnected switches.-The arm of a motorstarter is provided with an auxiliary switch s which completes the energizing-circuit o of the main contactor switch when the arm is moved " on," but breaks it on reverse movement. The auxiliary switch s is constructed as a roller having conducting and insulating sections s, z, Fig. 2, respectively, the roller being pivoted at s<1> in a frame v, which is pivoted to the arm b, and the roller is pressed down on to the contact p and segment r by a spring. On clockwise movement of the arm b, the roller rotates as far as a stop y on itself permits, the live part s moving over the segment. Movement in t h e reverse direction rotates the roller until the insulation z rests on the segment and the circuit of the coil o is broken. In a modified form, the switch s consists of a live part s<2>, Fig. 5, so as to protrude between insulating - disks 2, which are provided with a limit stop y as before. In another form, an insulating - roller 3, Fig. 8, rotates, as permitted by a stop y, in the frame v, and carries a switch arm 4, to which current is conveyed by a wire v<1>. In a further modification, a ratchet-wheel 5, Fig. 11, on the arm b engages a roller 10 on a lever 6, a slot 8 in which embraces a pivot 7. A spring 9, abutting against the pivot and one end of the slot, allows the lever to move endlong over the line of deadcentres. Clockwise rotation of the arm moves the lever off an insulating-segment 12 on to a conducting-segment r. Further clockwise rotation of the arm throws a resistance q into the circuit of the coil o, and reverse movement of the arm, by restoring the lever 6 to its position on the insulation 12, breaks the circuit of the coil.
