Abstract

11,856. Holth, S. C. Anker-. May 19. Lubricant conveyed by mechanical means.-Relates to lubricating-arrangements for centrifugal cream-separators. The lower part of a hollow casing is closed by a cup-shaped oil receptacle 13, inged at 33 and secured by a pivoted bolt 34 and nut 35. The footstep bearing 15 of the spindle 1 is immersed in oil, which has access to the bearing-surfaces by a passage 19. The worm-wheel 6 that drives the spindle 1 dips into the oil and throws it into the upper part 23 of the casing to lubricate the shaft 9. A pait of the oil thus thrown is directed by a baffle-plate 26 into an oilcup 22, from which it passes by a pipe 24 to the bearing 4 of the spindle 1. The oil is maintained at a level 18 in the oil-chamber 13 by a device comprising two concentric pipes 27, 29, the inner of which is connected to a valved outlet 28. Normally, the lower part of the chamber 13 contains water up to the level of the lower end of the pipe 29, and the oil floats upon the water. Water is added from time to time, and the excess of water passes up the space between the pipes 27, 29 and escapes at the outlet 28. A shield 31 prevents oil from entering the upper end of the pipe 29. The shield 31 is attached to an horizontal plate 32 which serves to hold the adjacent portion of oil at rest, and to allow sediment to settle at the bottom of the chamber 13. The plate 32 is preferably of zinc and has an electrolytic action to prevent rusting of the bright shafts &c.
