Abstract
10,216. Stewart, W. H. June 17, 1908, [Convention date]. Cleaning internally, non-rotary appliances for.-In sewer-cleaning apparatus, an adjustable bucket is adapted to be drawn along the bottom of the sewer, and, when full, is raised and run along on a suitable carriage to the nearest man-hole. The bucket, Figs. 3 and 7, is made in two parts a, b connected together by pins a', b<3> working in slots b<2>, a2, and by means, such as a spring c clamped in sleeves c', which tend to separate the parts to the position shown in Fig. 4. The cage d<1> encloses the bucket, and is loosely connected thereto by such means as eyes d encircling the pin b<3>, and also by springs n<2>, the forward one of which is adjustable by a nut n<4>, and a runner n attached to the cage by links n<1>. The cage is made in two parts d<1>, d<3> held apart by springs d<6>, and is drawn along the sewer by cords d', Fig. 1. When the bucket is full, it may be drawn up to the carriage g<1>, running on the cord g, by means of the cord h, fixed at h<1> and passing over pulleys h<2>, h<3>, h<4>, and then locked by the catch i engaging the catch i<1>, Fig. 8, on the carriage. The bucket may then be run along to the manhole, discharged, and run back until the catch i' strikes the block j, clamped in any position on the cord g by a cam j<1> operated by a cord j'. Other means for raising the bucket, such as an inclined block or frame, may be used. The discharging-device consists of a blade e, Figs. 3 and 7, to which are swung plates e<1>, the whole being reciprocated by a rod e<2> and cords e<5>, or by a single cord e<5> working against a spring e<6>, Fig. 4.
