Sectional boilers; flues, internal. - Gases from the furnace first pass through a central flue d, immediately under the outlet from the hot - water boiler, and then return through two side flues e, one on each side of the central flue and slightly below it to the chimney flue. The elements a, b, c, of the boiler are connected together at the top and the sides by external pipes and branches i, j, k, l, m, n, or by internal pipes or nipples. Small flues g are provided between the elements to equalize the temperature along the flue d. The chimney flue may be turned from a vertical to an horizontal position. When used as a steam-generator, the size of the shell above. the flue d is increased, as shown by the dotted lines s in Fig. 4, to form a steam space; or a steam drum or dome may be employed.
