Imitations of textile fabrics. - Cord fabrics of the kind described in Specification 753/03 are made from'cords of varying cross-sectional shape and constant cross-sectional area, and are used for making tyres, pump disks, &c. Fig. 1 shows the application of such a cord for making a tyre, the narrow side of the cord being arranged at the inner circumference B, and the broad side being arranged at the tread B<1>, so that there are no gaps or overlapping at any part of the surface. Figs. 3 and 7 show two views of the cord. At the points A<1>, A<3>, where the cord lies at the inner circumference of the tyre, it is narrow in one direction and broad in another; at the point A<2> where the cord forms the tread of the tyre, the dimensions are the reverse of those at the points A<1>, A<3>. At points between A<1> and A<2>, the dimensions change gradually from those at A<1> to those at A<2>. To facilitate the winding of the cord on the former, notches A<4>, A<5>, A<6> are provided. The cord may be shaped by four revolving disks with cam peripheries, forming an orifice of varying crosssectional shape through which the cord passes. One or more of the disks carries a projection on its periphery for making the notches A', A<5>, A<6>.
