8164. Wilkinson, Heywood, & Clark, and Gordon, C. April 5. Coating-machines.-In a tank for containing paint &c. for coating articles by dipping, the agitators extending along the bottom of the tank are rotated by a vertical shaft which rises within the tank. The agitators a are mounted on a shaft carried in bearings b on a removable frame c which rests on ledges e. The shaft is rotated through bevel-gearing f, g, a clutch member h engaging with a clutch member q on a vertical shaft n rotated through bevel-gearing o, p. The shaft n is supported in a bearing r attached to vertical channel-irons. A louver arrangement u is employed to prevent sediment from settling on the bottom of the tank when out of use. A plate c' may be attached to the frame c to protect the gearing f, g.
