Liquid supply controlled by motion of gasholder; purifying gases.-In an acetylene plant of the kind in which the supply of water to the carbide is controlled by the gas-holder, the water tap 19 is operated by mechanism 20, 21, 22, which is constructed as described in Specification 21,314/07. Water passes from a reservoir 29 into a seal 1, which serves as a washer for the gas, and overflows through a pipe 4 into a second seal 5 mounted on the horizontal generator 2, the two seals being connected by a bent pipe 7. Water overflows through a hole 11 on to the carbide, and the gas produced passes through the pipes 24, 7, washer 1, and pipe 9 into the holder 3. The seal 5 enables the generator 2 to be turned to any convenient position. The cover 10 of the generator is held in place by a screw 25 and cross-bar 26 in conjunction with a pair of straining-rods 28 pivoted at 29.
