Abstract

7708. Edmonds, U. March 31. Clips, flexible-jaw.-A clip for attaching a hatguard to a hat consists of a pair of toothed bars a<1>, a<2> united to one another at the outer side a<3> only, and adapted to be closed on a hat brim by means of slides b, b<1> open on one side to permit the lateral introduction of the clip. The top and bottom bars a', a<2> are made of spring metal, so that, when the slides are drawn away from the centre, they spring apart and they are shaped to the contour of the brim. The middle of the frame is provided with an eye c to which the hat-guard cord is attached. Instead of the bars a<1>, a<2> being made of springy metal, they may be made in two parts hinged at a<7>, Fig. 9, near the centre of the frame, and with or without a spring to open out the two bars. The bridge a<3> between the bars may be omitted.
