Abstract

7410. Daillens, H. de, and Joris, A. March 27. Drilling-machines.-A portable electricallydriven drilling-machine has the conductor and collector mounted on a hollow sleeve 1 revolvably mounted on a hollow spindle 2, which is driven through a corrugated plate 6 from a sleeve 1 and runs in ball bearings 3', 4 in a casing. Pinions 9, 10 are mounted on the spindle 2 and gear with planet pinions 11,12 respectively, mounted on studs 13, 13<1> on the drill head 14. These planet pinions are adapted to gear with annular wheels 17, 16 mounted on a longitudinally adjustable sleeve 15 which cannot rotate. By this means, the speed can be changed and the spindle 2 and the head 14 run in the same direction. If overload occurs, the plate 5 attached to the sleeve 1 turns on the friction plate 6, and does not drive the spindle, the pressure of friction being adjusted by a spring ring 8 on the spindle. A three - speed device for use on the machine is shown in Fig. 2, and a switch is provided, Fig. 3, consisting of a plate 18 which can be rotated from the handle by a holt 19 until the contacts 21, 22 are in circuit, by turning the handle in the reverse direction, the spring 20 is compressed to release the contacts ; or a spring, not shown, which has been extended in engaging the contacts, automatically releases them on releasing the operating-handle.
