Abstract

Rigid-jaw wrenches.-A wrench for use with conical-headed nuts comprises two members d, e, the former of which carries a rotatable member f on the end of a spindle g screwing through a sleeve k, and the latter having a part o serving as a countersupport. The square parts of the spindle g and spanner f are connected by a sleeve h provided with corresponding apertures to receive them and by a spring z located in annular grooves. The sleeve k is mounted so that it cannot rotate in the end of the member d, but it can be adjusted longitudinally by nuts m. In operation, the members f, o are clamped on the head and nut of the bolt connecting the work y, y by turning the cam n on the arm u as shown, and the nut c is loosened or tightened by rotating the screw g by means of a spanner applied at the head i, the pressure on the nut c remaining constant since the pitch of the threads on the screw g is the same as that of the screw bolt. The same wrench can be used for a nut of a different pitch by merely exchanging the parts k, g for others of a corresponding pitch. The member o can be slightly rotated by means of the pin p, but its motion is limited by suitable abutments on the arm e.
