Sheet-metal staples for fastening cardboard &c., for example in the manufacture of cardboard boxes, consist of a strip of metal having tongue-pieces a, the outer edges of which are parallel to the longitudinal axis of the strip. Each tongue-piece has two teeth b, the inner edge c of which terminate midway between the root d and the outer edge of the tongue-piece. For fastening thin material, the teeth are bent to make an acute angle with the surface of the tongue-piece, while the teeth are bent to an obtuse angle in the case of thick cardboard.
