Abstract
5629. Houston, J. March 9. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Liquid supply controlled by motion of gasholder; solid in separate charges in generator.- An acetylene-generating apparatus comprises a generating - chamber b having a cover g dipping into water contained in an outer concentric vessel c. Superposed removable perforated carbide trays k in the vessel b have central tubes for the passage of a valve-rod, connected to a sludge valve f, and provided with a detachable handle j. On the descent of the gas-holder, a plunger r, sliding in a vessel q containing anti-freezing liquid, is raised, and a float v descends and opens a water valve w on a pipe connected to an overhead reservoir. Water then flows by a pipe o to a tubular casing p fixed to the exterior of the chamber b. The portion of the wall of this chamber forming the side of the casing p is perforated to allow the water to attack the carbide in the lower tray first. When all the trays are submerged, further water overflows by a pipe x to a vessel q<2>, lifts a float therein, and closes the watersupply valve w.
