Abstract

5585. Steinberg, H. Schulte-. March 8. Processes; combaned apparatus.-Relates to a process for making clay bricks, and consists essentially in heating the clay to evaporate the moisture and expel the air contained therein and in moulding the c l a y while impregnated with steam. A conveyer 22 delivers clay from a pit 23 to the hopper 21 of a rotating mixing-drum 10, through which hot gases are passed, the waste gases from the kiln 18 preferably being used. The clay passes through the mixing-drum, in the opposite direction to that of the gases, into a chamber 16, and, after being ground by rollers 26, is conveyed to a trough 30, through which it passes into the hopper 33 of the moulding-press. The bricks as they are formed are immediately placed in the kiln. A sieve 31, rocked by an eccentric 32, is arranged between the trough 30 and the hopper 33 to intercept the coarse material and return it to the chamber 16 through a pipe 35.
