Abstract

4443. Marks, E. C. R., [Wilcomb Machine Co.]. Feb. 23. [Addition to 2812/08.] Circular machines. - Relates to modifications of the machine described in the parent Specification. The presser ring 9 is provided with a bevel edge 9<a> and downwardly-projecting teeth 9<b> which extend below the lowest position of the needle-heads, thus avoiding the possibility of the needles striking the ring 9 in their upward movement. The web-holders 7 act similarly to the dividing-wheels of a loop-wheel frame, the new loops being held on the tops of the webholders previous to being drawn into the fabric. This action renders the new loops of equal length, facilitates the use of tender yarn, and assists in preventing small obstructions, knots, &c. from appearing on the face of the fabric. The sinkers and web-holders are thinned at the acting ends as shown, the sliding surfaces being of the full width to facilitate removal from the inside of the machine. The pivoted web-holder cams 39 are adjusted by means of pins 41 working in grooves 42 cut in pivots 43, to which are fixed levers 45 which may be turned by hand. The sinker cover-plate is provided with an upwardly-extending edge, which prevents the access of oil to the acting ends of the sinkers.
