3943. Walker, J. S., Walker, T. A., and Walker, E. R. Feb. 17. Check valves. - An automatic valve of the grid type, for air-compressors and blowing and other fluid-pressure engines, comprises a valve plate A, Figs. 1 and 2, which is attached to the seating by means of flexible arms T formed by slotting the plate near its periphery, so as to leave a connecting-part U remote from the place of connexion V with the valve seating. A guard G, Fig. 2, mounted on a bush G<2> on the central pin Y, is disposed between upper and lower springs X, X<1>, respectively, the former serving to absorb shocks as the valve opens. The edges of the guard opposite the flexible arms T are formed with curved surfaces G', Figs. 2 and 3, to cause the arms T to bend in such a form that the valve tends to remain parallel to its seating. The valve may be of a circular, oval, rectangular, or other shape.
