Pottery materials.-In order to improve its quality, China-clay, especially the varieties known as "bleaching clay" and "potter's clay," is treated with oxalic acid, preferably at the temperature of about 55‹ C. If a filter-press is used in the subsequent treatment of the clay, the pressed clay is well washed with water to remove the oxalic acid and any soluble salts that it has formed.
