Abstract

1702. Williams, W. S. Jan. 23. Hand-stamps for endorsing &c., of the kind in which some of the words or lines of type may be changed, is so constructed that some of the lines may be depressed out of the printing position. The stamp comprises one or more lines of fixed type b, lines b<1> mounted on an endless band b<2> extending around a flat drum c<1> and a drum c fitted with an actuating-wheel c provided with an indicator, and type b<3> carried by a frame d suspended by links d<2> in such a way that, by operating a knob, the type b<3> may be moved out of printing position. The frame d may also be fitted with changeable lines of type which are mounted on a roller d<4>. The rollers c', d' are held in printing positions by means of springs engaging their flat sides.
