Abstract

1133. Whiting, J. R. Jan. 16. Skating-rinks.-In a skating-rink of the undulating type, a flat central floor is formed round the edge with a switchback track built of fixed or portable sections and wholly or partly above the normal level; other portable undulations and means for ski skating are also provided. Fig. 1 shows a part plan of a rink. The undulations may be adjustable and graduated, and the portable sections 2 may be interchangeable to form variable combinations. Breaks may be formed in the ascending or descending slopes, and the ends of the floor may be tilted as in cycle tracks. Steps 27, 28 and guards or railings 11, 25, 29 are also provided. For ski-ing, a section, Fig. 12, placed on the floor 1, is formed with its surface 33 ending in an abrupt edge 34 so as to project the skaters into the air. A safety-device on which they may alight comprises a canvas sheet 39, Fig.15. suspended by springs 40 from an inclined frame 37; or, according to the Provisional Specification, a tank containing water or granulated cork may be provided.
