Abstract

1105. Adams, S. H. Jan. 16. Actuating valves; rotary disk valves; sliding valves.-A valve-opening device suitable for rotary-disk and sliding valves used in deep man-holes comprises a short lever F, which is pivoted to the valve and is adapted to bear at one end upon a fixed part of the valve frame, such as D, Fig. 1, or H, Fig. 5, when the other end is raised by a chain or handle, so that an initial powerful prizing action is exerted to open the valve. The lever is counterweighted so as to fall free of the parts D or H when the valve is being closed. The rotary-disk valve may be mounted on a screwed pivot pin a, Fig. 3, or upon a plain pin f, Fig. 4, having a wedge or cam-shaped head e so that the disk is forced tightly on to its seating in closing.
