Abstract

28,362. Walters, H. G. Dec. 30, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Top-notches; open-caps. -Umbrellas, parasols, and the like are constructed so as to allow them to be turned inside out without injury. Fig. 3 shows the umbrella turned inside out. The top-notch 14 is slidably mounted on the stick 2, its movement being limited by a stop-pin 33 above the runner. The cover 8 is clamped between leather or like washers 7 flanged by collars 10, 4 fixed to the stick by a pin 11 and a screw 6, or by other suitable means, a shedder cap 12 being provided; or the clamping may be effected by a flanged collar and the shedder cap. The top-notch and the collar 10 may be provided with serrations or teeth 13 which engage when the umbrella is opened and prevent rotation of the top-notch.
