Hand, travelling, and like bags are strengthened by steel strips a, Fig. 2, which are riveted, stitched, glued, or otherwise secured to the inside or outside of the shoulders of the bag. When the steel strips are secured to the outside of the bag, they are covered with leather. The strips a may have extensions b, which pass down the sides of the bag, or may be connected to cross-frames c, Fig. 3, secured to the ends of the bag. The resilience of the steel strips causes the bag to return to its correct shape after distortion. According to the Provisional Specification, the strips may be made of other materials than steel and, when placed on the outside of the bag, may be engraved or otherwise ornamented instead of being covered with leather ; also, the rivet-heade may be ornamented by engraving &c.
