Abstract
27,554. Johnson, A. H. Dec. 18. Switches.-A switch controlling contacts i, i<1>, b is used in connexion with interlocking mechanism for railway signals and points. A bar h is held normally between the fixed contacts i, i<1>, establishing electrical connexion between them, and serves as a guide for a universally-mounted bar J. This bar, when the railway points are to be operated, is raised by an electro-magnet k, and, when the movement of the points is completed and the electromagnet de-energized, falls into a notch in the points draw-bar l. When the bar is raised, the switch b is opened. When the bar J is moved sideways, about its horizontal pivot, as when a train fouls the points, the contact-bar h is removed from the contacts i, i<1>.
