23,582. Bonzano, M. F. Nov. 4. Rails, securing to sleepers; chairs; rail joints.- Rails are secured upon wear-plates 2 by clips 4 and blocks 5. The clips 4 and blocks 5 are secured together by vertical or inclined serrations 7, angular or curved, or by pins 31. The blocks 5 engage under the flange 6 of the wear-plate 2 and are held down by lips 9 on the clips. 4 or by washers 15 overlapping the blocks. The wear-plate 2 may be secured to wooden sleepers, or to metal sleepers with an interposed block of wood, the plate 2 having side flanges 26 which overlie the block. The wearplate may have a central rib entering the sleeper or may be adjusted by means of washers 18, which may have oval &c. flanges and may have projections engaging the flange 6 of the wear-plate, the adjustments being effected by turning the washers end for end or by interchanging them. At the rail joints, the clips 4 may have a projection 11<a> engaging a notch in the fish-plate flange. The fish-plates may be staggered to enable one clip on each side of the joint to engage with the rail flange, and abut against the fish-plate flange, which in a modification may be cut away for a short distance, as shown, for the same purpose. The adjusting and securing bolts may be insulated.
