Abstract

19,296. Norton, E. Sept. 19, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Plates; soldering.-Iron or steel sheets, to be. used as a substitute for tinplate, are coated along the lines of the intended seams with solder or solderable material, as shown in Fig. 1. The intermediate spaces are coated with a metallic, non- solderable, non - corrosive, acid-resisting material united to the surface of the sheet by the action of heat. The solder or solderable material may be applied by a machine as shown in Fig. 2, the end rollers 3 being adjustable to suit plates of different widths. The central rollers 4 are broader than the end ones so as to coat a wide strip along the centre of which the plate may be divided. The non- corrosive material is preferably aluminium bronze powder, and is applied to the sheets by a coating of size or varnish which is afterwards evaporated by heating 'the plate to a temperature between 230‹ and 400‹ F.
