Abstract

19,051. Chaveriat, V. Sept. 10. [Patent of Addition to No. 12,087, A.D. 1908. Brakes.-An apparatus for adjusting the brakes of railway vehicles of the type described in Specification No. 12,087, A.D. 1908, is arranged to adjust the whole of the brake rigging of a vehicle or of a bogie-truck. The brake-cylinder lever 20 is connected by a rod 19 to a double lever 12, the upper end of which is connected to the pull-rod 15 of the brakes. Between the parts of the lever 12 are arranged two arms 12<a>, 12b, connected together at 14 and pivoted respectively at 15<a> and 24 to the lever 12. The lower end of the lever 12<b> is fixed. A cam 6 provided with a ratchet-wheel at each side is pivoted to the lever 12 and bears against the lever 12<a>. The ratchet-wheels 9<a> are engaged by pawls 7 carried by a pivoted arm 17 connected by a link 18 with the rod 19. When the brakes are applied, the levers 12, 12<a>, 12<b> move as one lever about the pivot 13, and the pawl is moved to and fro, by the rod 18, on the tooth of the ratchet with which it is in contact; but, when the rod 19 is moved more than a predetermined distance owing to slackness in the rigging, the pawl is moved into engagement with the next tooth. On the release of the brakes, the cam 6 is turned to adjust the angle between the levers 12, 12<a>, and the rods are moved into the position shown in broken lines.
