Abstract
19,034. Dibdin, L. A. Sept. 10. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Sewage, treating; bacteriological processes; filtering.-An arrangement for use in connexion with bacteria beds or other apparatus in which a series of vessels are successively charged and discharged comprises a water-wheel or equivalent motor A, which is rotated, when a bed B is filled, by the overflow therefrom through a pipe C. The wheel operates a bell D or some other signal, or closes the inlet valve to the filter and opens that to the succeeding filter, or works both the signal and the valves. The wheel A is also rotated by the discharge from an auxiliary chamber H when sufficient liquid has flowed over from the bed B through an adjustable valve K to open a valve or tipping- weir G. This is connected by a link L to a similar valve F, which admits liquid more rapidly from the fitter so as to maintain a sufficient flow through the chamber H to keep the valve G open and to rotate the wheel A. The period of contact for the bed is thus automatically regulated, the wheel A being connected to the outlet valve by worm, rack- and-pinion, and other gear, arranged so that it becomes inoperative when the valve is opened to the full extent, and permits the valve to close quickly, for example by its own weight, when a latch or detent is tripped by means of the valve-controlling apparatus of the preceding bed.
