14,399. Schumacher, W. July 7. Blast and cupola furnace charges.-In briquetting blast-furnace dust, with or without the addition of ores, use is made of the hydraulic binding-agents, such as lime, silicic acid, and alumina, contained in the dust itself, the binding action of which is set in action or increased by the addition of catalytically acting salts, or acids forming such salts. The chlorides and sulphates ot the alkali earth metals, or metals of the iron group, are preferably used, and the hardening effect may be increased by subjecting the briquette to the action of steam under pressure. An addition may also be made of binding-agents such as powdered blast furnace slag, quartz dust, or spatbic iron ore. Specification No. 15,482, A.D. 1891, is referred to.
