Abstract

14,328. Angle, A. H. July 6. Electric railways on a conduit system in which the normally 'dead' sectional conductors are mounted on springs and adapted to close the slot of the conduit, and, on the passage of the collectors, the conductors are depressed and become energized by engaging with live' contacts. Conductors; conduits.-The conduit is carried by the usual sleepers, and its upper surface is arranged to be slightly higher than the treads of the rails, so that the collectors may pass over them at the crossings. The conduit comprises a trough portion 4, Figs. 4 and 7, in which a pair of flanged members 6 are supported as shown, so as to form a slot normally closed by the spring-pressed sectional conductors 9. The sections are insulated from the conduit sides by the insulated-material. 13, and are provided with depending pieces 22 adapted to contact with the studs 19 when the collectors engage the conductors. The studs are connected to the feeder 14 and, to avoid breakage or shock, are mounted on springs 20. In the modified construc tion, shown in Figs. 8 and 9, the conduit sections are insulated from each other at C, and the conductor sections mounted on the springs K carried by brackets N' from the top pieces G. The conductor sections are retained in their correct longitudinal position by means of links Q connected to the plates R.
